This listing is for a Star-Fire model 402 'High Fidelity' transistor tape recorder. These units were popular in the 1960s or, at least a lot of them were sold! This particular unit is made of hard bakelite or, probably more correctly, Plaskon or a mimic material. There are no cracks, chips, or even notable scratches. It is in excellent physical shape and does operate to a degree. The motor runs and rewind sort of works. The play direction needs some prompting. There is some audio on the tape of the type that is mostly what was recorded on these things 'Testing, 1-2-3'! The audio, to be fair sounds surprisingly decent so this one might have a bias oscillator. Most didn't have this and were often very dull even in the voice spectrum. The battery box is clean and the metal battery cover is in nice shape. It would not be hard to make this recoder to function properly.
